Patient Case Study:
Nancy Roudis, Age 44, Minooka, IL
I was in my mid-thirties when I began as a patient with Dr. Savage. Now, nearly 10 years later, I am still a patient on a lifelong journey to continue to feel better and age well.Currently, I’m 44 years old, married and reside in Minooka, Illinois. And now, my husband is even a patient. Dr. Savage was the first doctor – out of half a dozen that I had seen prior to him – who was determined to get to the root of my symptoms and correct it with a customized, long-term treatment plan, rather just treating the symptoms.
When I met Dr. Savage, to say that I was having trouble with fatigue was an understatement – I literally couldn’t drive home from work without stopping to take a nap. I constantly fell asleep at my desk at work. After work, I slept until dinner was ready, and then I was back on the couch until my husband was ready to go to bed. I would take a shower, hop back in bed and sleep solid until my alarm sounded the next morning. Weekends were a waste; I typically slept until 3:00 p.m. and napped off and on throughout both days. We stopped meeting with friends, traveling and going out to dinner. Basically, I functioned for required responsibilities, until I could go back to sleep. Doctor after doctor ran numerous tests, and they were quick to put a band-aid on my problems by prescribing medications for my symptoms. I heard plenty of “could be this” or “could be that.” None of their treatment plans made me feel better.
Dr. Savage was interested in assessing my entire story, and was the first doctor who actually asked how I felt. I wasn’t just notes he entered for documentation. He asked me, “Is this working? Why? How?” Finding the root of the cause was his focus, which was completely different than any other doctors’ methods I had experienced. It took some time, but we realized I was suffering from adrenal fatigue, not sleep apnea or a thyroid issue, as I was previously told. My hormones were completely off balance, so he devised tailored treatment to fit my needs, rather than a “cookie-cutter” method, which included a series of progesterone hormone replacement therapy and supplemental vitamins. It took time to find the right hormone balance, but once we found the right combination, I regained my energy and have maintained it ever since. To me, feeling better isn’t about a quick fix – I’m in it for the long haul. Dr. Savage has proven to me that to feel well and age well, it’s an ongoing, lifelong commitment. He has yet to disappoint me in that sense.
One of the reasons I keep returning to Dr. Savage is the comfort in knowing that he understands that I prefer natural supplements to prescriptions. Rather than persuading me into undergoing certain medical tests or taking medications, he researches and finds alternatives for me that are less evasive and dangerous. I also can’t say I am where I am today with my health and well being without crediting Dr. Savage. Without his determination to dig for the reason behind my fatigue, I would still be stuck on the couch, filled with prescriptions and still be miserable. To me that is worth more than gold – I got my life back. Ageology is an on-going process, so yes, there are days when I cheat and don’t exercise and I eat unhealthy. However, when I do slack off Dr. Savage is constantly encouraging, not lecturing me back on track. For instance, rather than simply telling me not to eat fast food, he explains what it does to my body and how it affects my energy, until I realized I truly had no idea why certain foods affected my well being. So in a sense, Dr. Savage’s methodology has empowered me to take charge of my life because I understand how my body works and reacts to things.
